Holiday destination
The lake itself and the immediate surroundings are a true paradise for nature lovers, fishermen, water sports enthusiasts, cyclists, and hikers. Dogs are also more than welcome here. There is a special beach and a forest for them near Lauwersoog.
Within a few hundred meters, there are several playgrounds for children: on the beach, in the small holiday resort 'de Skâns', and in Esonstad – a holiday resort built as a replica of a typical old Frisian town. In Esonstad, you will even find a bouncy castle and an indoor play area, and you can play golf and footgolf in the local Pitch & Putt area. Renting a bicycle or e-chopper is also possible here.
In Esonstad, you can easily do your daily shopping (a larger supermarket is located just a few kilometers away in Anjum) or find a restaurant, pizzeria, or snack bar.
Three more restaurants are located even closer to your holiday home. Some offer spectacular views of the lake. Other good options for enjoying local seafood dishes are the seaport of Lauwersoog on the north side of the lake, the old fishing village of Zoutkamp on the east side, or near Dokkum, the northernmost fortified city in Friesland.
To discover the National Park from the water, you can bring your own boat or surf equipment, but boats and sailboats are also available for rent at 'Paviljoen La Barca'. If you prefer catamaran sailing, try the local catamaran club 'Omaho', next to the small marina.
