The Maremma is a landscape in central Italy, to which, according to a common pars-pro-toto-understanding, the entire southern Tuscany and parts of the northern Latium belong. In the narrower sense, however, the Maremma covers only the shallow, interrupted by the hills of the Monti dell'Uccellina coastal strip between the Gulf of Follonica, the rivers of the Bruna and the Ombrone and the lagoon of Orbetello on Monte Argentario, originally a contiguous, with the Tyrrhenian Sea-related marshes.
