For your daily groceries (a large supermarket is located a few kilometers away in Anjum), you can also go to the local supermarket in Esonstad. Other facilities include a restaurant, a pizzeria, and a snack bar. Even closer to the chalet—in the marina and on the dike—there are also three excellent restaurants with a beautiful view over the Lauwersmeer. You are in the right culinary spot on this former arm of the Wadden Sea. In the harbor of Lauwersoog, you will find a variety of seafood restaurants, and the former seaport of Zoutkamp on the other side of the Lauwersmeer also offers a wide selection of restaurants. Finally, a visit to historic and picturesque Dokkum, with its forts, shops, and terraces, is highly recommended.
To discover the national park from the water, you can of course bring your own boat, but just around the corner from the chalet, you can also rent various sloops, sailboats, or canoes at Paviljoen La Barca. A round trip, a trip to Dokkum, or a birdwatching excursion on the former cargo ship Vlinderbalg are also possible, and a ferry to Schiermonnikoog departs from here several times a week. From Lauwersoog, you can participate in seal and mudflat walking and, depending on the tide, enjoy the Wadden Sea World Heritage Site on the dry Engelsmanplaat.
