Holiday destination
Oostmahorn is an old stronghold at the western side of the Lauwerslake with a rich history, dating back to the sixteenth century. Nowadays it's a very pleasant tourist destination at the National Park Lauwersmeer, hosting several holiday resorts.
The lake itself and the immediate surroundings are a true paradise for nature lovers, fisherman, water sports enthusiasts, cyclists and hikers. Dogs are more than welcome here as well. There's a special beach and a forest for them at Lauwersoog.
Within a couple of hundreds of meters there are several playgrounds for children. At the beach, in the small resort 'de Skâns' and in Esonstad - which is a holiday resort built as a replica of a typical old Frysian city. In Esonstad you'll even find a bouncy castle and an indoor playing hall and one can play golf and foot golf here at the local Pitch & Putt area. Renting a bicycle or e-chopper is also possible here.
