In the early 80's the beaver was resettled in the Eifel and is visible just in the near surroundings with a little luck. As well as the eagle owl. It was exterminated and now hunts again in our forests.
The climate is determined by the influence of the Atlantic. Therefore the winters are relatively mild, and the summers not too hot. The German-Belgian nature park invites to very unusual hikes. The high moor in the "Hohen Venn" can be admired over wooden footbridges.
Furthermore, numerous castles, palaces and monasteries as well as 15 lakes and dams can be explored. Here the Rursee is to be emphasized. It can be completely circumnavigated with its approx. 26 km long bay, e.g. by bicycle.
Since 2006, the Vogelsang military training area has been accessible to visitors. Especially the guided hikes bring a lot of new knowledge about the former "NS-Ordensburg".
Surrounding towns and cities also invite visitors to linger. Monschau offers one of the most beautiful Christmas markets not only in winter. Even in summer, this romantic place is always a source of relaxation. Heimbach can also be reached within a few minutes by car. Aachen, Düren, Eupen are also popular destinations for day trips.
Boredom cannot arise at all. If the weather doesn't play along at all, there is the possibility of a visit to one of the beautiful baths or saunas in the area.
Our charming holiday resort Schmidt is located at approx. 380 - 480HM. It offers 300km of hiking trails, a game park and the proximity to the Rursee, numerous viewpoints which will remain in the memory of the recreation seeker.
Getting there
Coming from Nideggen, at the entrance to Schmidt turn left into Nideggener Str., after approx. 800 m turn right into Froitscheidter Str. (direction Vossenack).
Coming from Heimbach, turn right at the church, approx. 500 m Nideggener Str., then turn left into Froitscheidter Str. ( direction Vossenack )

Die Fewo ist ist sehr schön , top gepflegt und mit allem ausgestattet was man benötigt. Die Gastgeber sind super nett, freundlich und hilfsbereit. Ein Ort zum Wohlfühlen!
