The resort Schönau is situated in the nature park Südschwarwald (Southern Black Forest) at the river "Wiese", surrounded by the mountains Feldberg and Belchen at the border triangle. Countless well-marked hiking trails invite the visitors for long walks and bicycle tours.
The immediate vicinity offers numerous destinations:
Local history museum Klösterle, Fröhnd, glas-blowing farm, waterfalls, visitors mine, Steinwasen-Park, tourist train, farmhouse museum, textile museum, abbey St. Trudbert, stalactite cave Hase and much, much more.
Ideal day-trip destinations: The Europa-Park theme park in Rust, the beautiful cities Freiburg or Basel in Switzerland, Colmar in French Alsace or Lake Constance.
Getting there
- Travel by train:
the nearest IC/ICE railway station is Freiburg or Basel. From there you have to take the train to Zell (Wiesenthal). From Zell you can reach Schönau easily by bus or taxi (approx. 10km).
-Travel by car:
from Stuttgart the Autobahn A 81 towards Singen; exit Bad Dürrheim towards Donauschingen, on the federal highway B 27 towards Schaffhausen.
Once you passed Donauschingen take the B 31 to Titisee/ Freiburg. Before you reach Titisee drive towards Feldberg/ Todtnau/ Basel on the B 317 till Schönau.
From Basel approx. 1 hour. Take the B 317 towards Donauschingen across Lörrach/ Schopfheim/ Zell/ Schönau.
