Our property is located in a quiet, secluded resort with approx. 15 houses. At the same time, the lively, young Jarabacoa is only a few minutes away.
Jarabacoa is located in the centre of the Dominican Republic and surrounded by hills with a height of up to 529 metres.
The distance to the provincial capital La Vega is 20 km. (Santo Domingo 140 km, Santiago de Los Caballeros 38 km, Samaná 180 km, Punta Cana 327 km, Puerto Plata 127 km, Cabarete 99 km, Dajabon 203 km). This region is called 'Switzerland of the Caribbean' for a reason: many wealthy Dominicans feel the pull to move here from the big cities.
This means you might see a Lamborghini trying to handle the bumpy roads, or a Rolls Royce parked in front of a shanty. The population fluctuates between 50,000 and 70,000 depending on which statistics you rely on.
However, one thing is for sure: Jarabacoa is a very young town with a young population. This is evident in the seemingly 'thousands' of mopeds and motorcycles on the roads that will draw your attention with 'impressive and risky driving manoeuvres'.
It is incredibly vibrant and I know of very few places where people are that helpful and respectful. You'll find shopping facilities for your daily needs, supermarkets, pharmacies, DIY stores and more. Prices are reasonable, so there's really no need to drive to surrounding cities. There are medical practices and two hospitals. It goes without saying that the town also offers plenty of entertainment; e.g. numerous cafes, bars, restaurants and discos invite you to linger and have a good time.
Compared to other districts, the level of education is high and there are not only numerous state-run schools, but also several private schools. The crime rate is very low.
The trip to Santiago de los Caballeros, the second largest city in the Dominican Republic with roughly 600,000 residents, takes approx. 1 hour by car. Coastal towns like Puerto Plata or Cabarete can be reached within 2 hours, and the same goes for the capital Santo Domingo.
In addition to driving there in your own car, you also have the option to take the local intercity buses that run every hour in all directions. It is certainly the cheapest option, but also the most time-consuming due to the numerous transit stops.
Hiring a taxi is significantly more comfortable and faster; if you want to visit Santo Domingo for example, you'll pay approx. 100.00 € round trip and the driver will gladly wait for you.
Of course we are happy to organise all travel options upon request. We also own two accommodations in Santo Domingo and can guarantee at least one Spanish-speaking family connection.
Lots of really beautiful attractions and sites can be found in the immediate vicinity. We might as well disclose the most impressive attraction here: It is the Pico Duarte, with 3087m the highest mountain in the Caribbean. The entrance to the climb is approx. 30 km from Jarabacoa in a National Park near the village La Cienaga.
From La Vega on the B28 (Federico Basilis) to Buena Vista (district Jarabacoa). After a few hundred metres you'll see the "Colmado Cunda" across from a furniture store. Turn right and immediately right again. Follow the slightly bumpy road for approx. 600 metres. You will see the entrance gate to the complex on the right-hand side. Your destination is the 6th house on the left.
