The nearest village is Castrignano del Capo, about 2 km from the holiday home. Santa Maria di Leuca is a pilgrimage destination with a small sanctuary church, where the Adriatic and Ionian Seas meet. The hinterland, the Murgie Salentine, is characterized by its rust-brown soil, plump giant cacti, gnarled olive trees as well as scattered fig and almond trees, stone shelters, and peaceful and slightly cunning Murgia villages.
