In the most southern part of the province of Salzburg, surrounded by the high peaks which are part of the 'Spine of the Alps', lie the 15 idyllic towns and valleys of the holiday region Lungau. In the middle of this saucer-shaped valley, lies the village of Mariapfarr. In recent years Mariapfarr has become known as the 'sunniest village in Austria'. Now- after years of research - the Mariapfarr district has also been found to have a healing climate!
Getting there
From North:
Munich highway A8 - Salzburg - A10 Tauernautobahn and take the St.Michael exit - B99 towards Mauterndorf - take the B95 towards Tamsweg - turn left at the signpost to Mariapfarr - after 500m turn right into Althofen - the house is directly opposite the Althofen church.

Local area stunning and plenty visitor attractions in particular Mautendorf, quaint with souvenir shops, castle, village square and amateur gliding club open at weekends too. Hubbie had hour flight for eighty euros and his holiday high. A maximum of an eight minute drive.
You can hire electric bicycles but car an essential to enjoy area in full.
Every village locally had its attractions and breath taking local routes for walking or driving.
This holiday not will disappoint for relaxation and peace.

Apartment located in Altenhofen a ten minute walk from Mariapfarr through a gorgeous avenue, each tree planted in memory of a local soldier killed In WW's. Every local we meet welcoming.
Frau Bauer an excellent hostess provided fresh rolls every morning, her English is limited but her daughters excellent.
There is now a small supermarket but our flight delayed and Frau Brauer provided enough provisions from her own kitchen to keep us going overnight. Stock up with essentials on route.
We were in top apartment everything we could have wanted, private and clean with glorious peaceful views from balcony, great air quality. Wonderful weather.
