Discover the Pottery (Au grés du temps) and their beautiful garden in the village. Historic Mont Castre has been of strategic importance since the bronze age. There is a Roman fort, mediaeval fortifications and the original church of Lithaire. The cycle paths are within 400m of the house, and in summer there is pedal boating on the lake of Mont Castre, which also has a children's playground, picnic area and café.
The cottage is located in the peaceful countryside of the Cotentin Regional Park.
Nestling in the shadow of Mont Castre, ‘Sunhillow’ is an ideal base for discovering what makes this part of Normandy so special.
In the main village (1m/1.7km) is a bakery where you can buy bread and other supplies and the ‘Au Gres Du Temps’ pottery is well worth a visit for its garden as well as its earthenware. On the doorstep is Mont Castre (view of the fort from kitchen window) where you can enjoy the woodland trail around the neolithic chambers, the roman and medieval fortifications and ruins of La Vieille Eglise. Around the corner you can join the extensive ‘voie verte’ cycle tracks that run for miles along a former railway, and connect to the Tour de Manche cycle route. The first two days of the 2016 Tour de France run through nearby towns (La Haye du Puits, Lessay, Carentan etc).
The pretty market town of La Haye du Puits is only a 5 minute drive, where there is an excellent choice of shops and restaurants. Long sandy beaches are within easy reach and are perfect either for relaxing and walking, or for engaging in every kind of beach and water sport. Good road links make Bayeux, Mont St Michel, Barfleur, or Granville excellent day trips - a daytrip to Paris is even possible by train.
The village of Lithaire is on the D903 road between La Haye du Puits and Carentan. The cottage is in a small lane, one mile (1.7km) outside the main village, towards La Haye du Puits.
