40 km east of Genoa, is the Tigullio bay which starts with Portofino and ends with Sestri Levante. Chiavari is a beautiful old town 20 km from Portofino. There is a daily market in the old square (10 mins walk) and an antiques market every 2nd weekend of the month. Arched historical shopping center (also modern supermarkets).Long sandy-gravelbeaches, lovely food stores for local specialities. For yachtsmen a large marina and a decked promenade with fountains and gardens for your evening stroll.
The " Cinque Terre" National Park is 30 train mins away; 5 miles of rocky shore, thousands of km dry stone terraces cultivated with vines, the dramatic coast falling sheer into the sea with wonderful panoramic footpaths along the cliffs connecting the 5 villages.
Do not miss Santa Margherita, Zoagli and Portofino National Park. One week's holiday is too short if you plan also a trip to Tuscany (2.3 hours away)
