Cleopatra's setting is high above the Dana Point Headlands and the world renowned “Gold Coast” region of south Orange County. Visitors come for the rejuevenation of the sea air, and the ever present yet, subtle sound of the surf.
Incorporated in 1989, the City of Dana Point is named after Richard Henry Dana Jr. (1851 - 1882), a Harvard-trained lawyer, seaman, and author of the classic sea journal entitled "Two Years Before the Mast" (1840).
Dana Point is home to 36,850 residents and is characterized by nearly seven miles of prominent coastal bluffs and rolling hills overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
Most noteworthy is a uniqe promontory known as the "Headlands " which overlooks Dana Harbor, one of the most significant man-made alterations of the Orange County coastline. Dana Point Harbor provides slips and mooring for over 2,500 boats along with over 50 specialty shops and restaurants.
The Harbor attracts thousands of visitors annually for shopping, sportfishing, walking, bicyling, parasailing and a host of recreational activities.
This picturesque harbor is also considered the gateway to Doheny State Park, one of California's most popular beach facilities.

Om June through September the ocean temperature tops 70° and lifeguards patrol almost every beach. Keep a lookout for signs warning of dangerous conditions: undertow, strong currents, and big waves can all be hazardous. Never go in the water when flags with a black circle are flying, and avoid swimming near surfers. Many beaches close just after sunset.
Golf and tennis are two more reasons to visit Orange County, thanks to the area's great weather and dozens of facilities. For those who wish to enjoy the coastline by bike or on foot, the Santa Ana Riverbed Trail hugs the Santa Ana River for 20˝ mi between the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) at Huntington State Beach and Imperial Highway in Yorba Linda. Joggers enjoy an uninterrupted path the entire way and don't have to run alongside cars. There are entrances, rest rooms, and drinking fountains at all crossings. A bike path winds south from Marina del Rey all the way to San Diego with only minor breaks. Most beaches have bike rental stands.
Dana Point is on the coast with several beautiful beaches and is located beside Laguna Beach close to Newport Beach, Huntington Beach and Long Beach. Catalina has virtually unspoiled mountains, canyons, coves, and beaches. It is only 8 miles away and is visable from the area on a clear day. The weather in Orange County, Southern California especially on the coast, is best weather in the US.
