Samhchair (Gaelic for "tranquillity") is a newly-built bungalow in the style of a Hebridean long house overlooking the safe, sandy beach of the beautiful Kilnaughton Bay, some two miles outside Port Ellen on the lovely Hebridean island of Islay - the whisky isle!
Samhchair has one twin and one double bedroom. Each bedroom offers en-suite facilities, satellite television, free wireless internet connection, tea and coffee making facilities, hair dryer and iron. Drying facilities are also available on request.
There is also a guests' lounge where you can relax in comfort to chat about your day, read, play a board game, listen to music or watch television on a wide screen.
The surrounding area
Visitors can enjoy spectacular panoramic views to Port Ellen, the Mull of Kintyre and Antrim while observing the local wildlife. Golden eagles, buzzards, herons, feral goats, highland cattle, otters, seals and dolphins may all be spotted from the terrace overlooking the sea. Close to air and ferry ports, Samhchair makes the ideal base for touring the island. Ardbeg, Laphroaig and Lagavulin distilleries, the championship Machrie Golf Links, the famous Kildalton high cross and the Oa nature reserve and monument are all close at hand. Fishing, walking and cycling are all popular pursuits in the beautiful surrounding countryside. While, if you wish to venture further afield, no destination on the island is more than 45 minutes away.
Activities

Travel information
You can reach Islay from the mainland either by ferry or by air from Glasgow airport:
Caledonian MacBrayne operates a ferry service between Kennacraig and Port Ellen or Port Askaig on the island. The timetables for this and all other services are available online. Also provided is a rather nice route map showing where the ferry docks and the roads on Islay. It is strongly recommended that you book your ferry in advance by calling 44 (0)8000 665000.
British Airways flies from Glasgow airport to Glenegedale, Islay's airport, just over five miles from Bowmore. Flight time is around 30 minutes. Timetables for these and other flights are available online or you can call British Airways Reservations on 44 (0)1496 302022.
Scottish Citylink operates a bus service from Buchanan Street in Glasgow to Kennacraig, leaving Glasgow at 9.00am and 1.30pm and arriving in time for the ferry crossing at 1.00pm and 6.00pm respectively. Enquiries 44 (0) 8705 505050.
When you arrive on the island, follow the road to the Mull of Oa. Turn left immediately past the new cemetery and follow the road over the hill (signposted Carraig Fhada lighthouse). Samhchair is the second house on the bay.
