Maolachy is an 18th century laird’s house with its old farm courtyard, and Garden Cottage – sleeping two - was converted from the byre that once housed Highland cattle. Now the ground floor is a comfortably furnished kitchen/living room; upstairs is a bedroom with coombe ceilings and double/twin beds with duvets/blankets.
All heat, light, linen and towels are included in the rent. VisitScotland 3 Stars.
The surrounding area
Lochavich is an isolated but accessible glen high on a plateau between the coast at Kilmelford and Loch Awe, and the whole of Lochavich and most of Loch Awe are Areas of Local Landscape Importance. Loch Avich itself is some 4 miles long by ¼ mile wide, and excellent brown trout fishing is available here and locally. The scenery is a complete mixture of moor & loch, of hills, forest and ancient oakwoods, of sky and long-distance views.
Local shops provide the basics with supermarkets (and petrol) in Oban - 40 minutes away. Ferries go to the islands of Mull, Coll, Tiree, Colonsay and Lismore, all possible for a day’s excursion. Cruises, watersports and good riding are available a few miles away.

Information sheets on Birdwatching, Gardens, Castles, Cycling, Walking and Fishing available. From the cottage door you can walk or cycle for miles along forestry tracks and old drove roads. Watersports & excellent brown trout fishing available locally.
