The Malt House was part of the old 'Hare and Hounds' village inn and now shares a cobbled courtyard with the owners' house. The ancient village pound, with lovely views over the Exe valley, forms the Malt House private garden.
The accommodation, all on the ground floor, is full of character with ancient beams and a large inglenook fireplace with a woodburning stove. The kitchen is well equipped, including electric cooker, microwave and fridge. Comfortable and spacious living & dining areas with TV, CD player and hi-fi. The two bedrooms have pleasant garden views. The bathroom includes the w.c. and bath with shower above. Heating throughout the accommodation is by off-peak electricity (included in price).
Off-road parking is available. Children are welcome (well-stocked games cupboard provided!), but no smokers or dogs please.
The surrounding area
The Malt House is located in the hamlet of Exton which consists of fifteen houses, a church and a farm, in the heart of Exmoor National Park. Perched on the steep side of the Exe valley, we are within walking distance of Winsford Hill and the river Exe, and surrounded by idyllic countryside full of flowers, wildlife, birds and history. Countless footpaths and bridleways crisscross the area, and there are plenty of long distance and less demanding walks which can start and end in Exton.
The area is ideal for walking, riding, fishing, sailing or just relaxing! The North Devon coast, with cliff walks, rocks and sandy beaches, is within easy reach by car. Wimbleball lake, with sailing and fishing opportunities, is four miles away.
The nearest shop, post office and garage are in Winsford, two miles up the valley. Dulverton, five miles away, is the headquarters of the National Park and is an attractive large village which can supply all general needs.
As there is limited public transport in the area a car is essential.
