It is Mayos largest town with a population of 12,000 approx.There is a wide variety of pubs, restaurants, hotels and night clubs in the town which is famous for its hospitility.Among Ballinas key visitor attractions are, Moyne Abbey, Rosserk Abbey dating back to the 15th century and Beleek Castle and woods.The inpressive St. Muredachs Cathedral stands imposingly on the banks of the River Moy.It is internationally acknowledge as an exceptional salmon fishing river, producing several thousand salmon to the rod annually.The fishing season usually opens on 1st March and closes on the 30th September.Ther are several other attraction around Ballina, like equestrian centres, Ballina swimming pool, sports and leisure centre.
