	The vacation rental Private house for rent: Natural stone country cottage in an olive-covered hillside, with a large terrace under the acacia trees and a wonderful view of the Arno valley. The ground floor comprises a well-appointed kitchen/living room with kitchenette area, an open fireplace and satellite TV, a bedroom with 2 beds, and a large bathroom with two showers, a toilet, and a washing machine. On the first floor, there are two more bedrooms and a bath/shower and toilet. The house is equipped with a coffee machine, a gas stove and oven, a fridge and deep-freeze, an electric kettle, a mixer, a vacuum cleaner, an ironing board and iron, and plenty of pans and crockery. The house is expertly looked after by Ms Breuer, who can provide you with Chianti, grappa. and cold-pressed olive oil direct from the farmers upon request. You can also take advantage of the cheap (from 10 Euros one-way) flights offered by Ryanair to Pisa (approximately 50 km from the house) and then rent a car (2003 rates were approximately 350 Euros per week). look at my homepage
	The surrounding area Art, culture and Tuscan cooking! San Baronto is a typical Tuscan climatic spa resort located in the centre of Montalbano. The area boasts good local restaurants and cafes with outside terraces, a post office, a pharmacy, a tourist office and alimentari (grocery stores). The house lies outside the town itself, in an area where many Florentines have holiday homes. In the summer, classical concerts are held in the nearby villas. The open-air fiestas in the surrounding villages during July and August offer the opportunity to party, dance and eat with the locals. There are opportunities to visit the Montalbano Chianti region, and Pisa, Siena, and Viareggio are about 60 km away – about an hour’s drive on the autostrada. The house is situated in a quiet area, but is also conveniently located for excursions to the lovely medieval town of San Gimignano. Lucca is about 50 km away. The pretty spa town of Montecatini, with its wonderful spa hotel and concerts in summer, is 20 km away. You are also close to the markets in Pistoia, Lamporecchio, and the neighbouring villages, and Florence is just 45 minutes’ drive away on the autostrada. Please park in supervised parking areas or in one of the private garages.
	Activities On summer evenings you will sit under the acacias, listening to the glorious song of the cicadas and enjoying the wonderful view of the lights of the Arno valley. Here, you can relax and let your stresses melt away. Tuscany is ideally suited to hill-walking, and you can buy walking maps in the alimentari. It’s an 11 km walk to Vinci, and in the autumn you can go hunting for boletus mushrooms in the Pineta. Biking is a favourite sport in Italy, and you can get in shape on the switchback mountain trails, as well as kitting yourself out in stylish Italian cycling gear. There are golf courses in Montecatini, Florence, and Pisa, and we can send you information about these upon request. The loveliest grottoes in Europe are at Monsumano, 15 km away. The kitchen is furnished in pine. Patio furniture is provided, and you will receive one basket of firewood for the fireplace. Additional wood can be ordered from Mrs Breuer for a small fee.

Travel information

You can drive via Switzerland, Milan, Bologna, or Florence – then take the A11 in the direction of Livorno to the Pistoia exit. Continue towards Vinci/Lamporecchio/Empoli until you reach the serpentine hills around the climatic spa of San Baronto. We would be happy to send you detailed driving directions upon request.
