The surrounding area
The medieval village of Xewkija (scheukiia) population around 3,000 -- is the oldest in Gozo - halfway between the main port of Mgarr and Victoria, the capital.
It is within easy walking distance to all basic amenities including 3 minimarkets, the local butcher, 2 excellent bakeries, pizzeria/restaurant, bank and pharmacy.
The mightily impressive Rotunda Church dedicated to St John the Baptist has the second highest dome, internally, in Europe (after St Peter's in Rome and celebrates its "festa" on the 4th Sunday in June.
The tiny pebbly beach of Mgarr ix-Xini can be reached on foot or by car (the road is not for the drunk or fainthearted). It offers spectacular views of the emerald clear sea as well as the rocky valley gorge below.
