Location and surroundings
The Hegau is a volcanic stamped landscape in southern Baden-Wuerttemberg between Lake Constance in the east, upper Rhine in the south, Danube in the north and the Randen as a south western offshoot of the Swabian Alb (resp. the Swiss canton Schaffhausen) in the west.
Apart from the Hegau "Kegelbergland",Hegau, to a greater or lesser extent, is part of the Lake Constance region and the embankment area adjoining the Upper Rhine up to the Rhine Fall near Schaffenhausen in the south as well as the Randen and the Hegaualb, which, from a geological point of view represents two extensions of the Swabian Juras.
All in all there are a number of hillovky, cone-shaped craters of extinct volcanoes, which tower over the 400 to 600m landscape with isolated heights between 643m and 867m.
