Pitsidia Village
|
The surrounding area
Villa Sofia is very close to beaches of Komos, Matala, Kokini Amos as well as the beaches of Ayiofarago with the beautiful gorge, the beaches of Vathi, Martsalo and many others smaller or larger beaches with clear crystal waters.
Pitsidia is one of the most beautiful villages of south Crete, as it preserves a unique traditional style with many old and renovated houses. Despite being a small village, Pitsidia offers all the modern facilites: tavernas, restaurants, cafeterias, a patisserie and many other shops. Moreover, it has a regular bus service to Matala, Mires, Timbaki, Iraklio and to other destinations. Big bazaars take place in Mires, a town close to Pitsidia, every Friday and Saturday. At those bazaars you can find local traditional products.

Kommos Beach |
Activities
The beach of Kommos is unspoiled, charming, stewn with fine golden sand where the Caretta-Caretta sea turtles lay their eggs. The view from the beach is also magnificent. You can access Kommos from Pitsidia or Matala either by car or on foot. The water is crystal clear, inviting, and ideal for water sports. A little of the shore, approx. 80 m. into the sea, there is a large black rock known as Volakas. Tradition says that it is the stone which cyclops Polyphemus hurled against Ulysses, who had earlier pierced the cyclops' only eye with a stake.
