Kalamaki is a small village on south coast of Crete. It is far away from mass tourism, quiet and traditional. With its long, sandy beach, it is ideal for relaxed holidays combining rest and excursions. Small taverns, fish-taverns and cafeterias allow having a drink or a nice meal just in front of the Libyan Sea.
You will also find small supermarkets, souvenirs, rental cars, etc. in Kalamaki.
The region is central, and thus ideal for daily excursions towards both east and west Crete (Preveli, Heraklion, rethymnon, small beaches of the south coast, excursions in the mountains).
The area itslef offers many kinds of interests: sea, walks in mountain gorges, beautiful natural sites and landscapes, cultural spots like monasteries, archaeological sites like Festos, Gortys etc.

Arrival
From Heraklion airport, take the freeway dir. Heraklion. After about 8 km take the exit dir. Mires.
Follow the road direction Mires for some 60 km. About 10 km after Mires, just before entering Tymbaki, you see a Nissan garage on your right.
Turn left in front of the garage, dir. Kalamaki/Kamilari.
