The Cottage
The Whins cottage is set on a hillside sheltered by an abundance of yellow whin bushes and trees with panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.
It has been skilfully restored to retain its original features whilst modern comforts have been subtly integrated. The living room has a large open hearth fire, the flagstone floor, Irish dresser and spinning wheel, high beamed ceiling will transport you to times past. Two bedrooms with crisp white linen. Kitchen providing everything you need for home cooking. Surrounding the cottage is uncultivated land.
Bed linen, towels and fuel for the open fire are supplied. Electricity is metered.

Margaret with be at the cottage to welcome you on arrival with the turf fire burning, and have everything nice for your arrival.

Location and surroundings
The Whins cottage is in a peaceful rural area surrounded by farmland and hills with grazing cows and sheep. The Fanad Peninsula is very scenic with hills, mountains, cliffs, lakes, several beautiful sandy beaches and deserted seashores and the rugged Atlantic coastline. 2km from the cottage is the newly constructed bridge over Mulroy Bay giving easy access to the Rosguil Peninsula and the pretty village of Carrigart. It is mainly a farming community and sparsely populated. The cottage is situated in the heart of Fanad’s Gaeltacht area where the Irish language and culture is preserved. There are many quiet roads and hedged laneways to explore. 18 hole golf course at Portsalon.

The views along some of the routes are breathtaking with a variety of rock formations along the way and the magnificent very rugged and jagged Atlantic coastline. Also refreshing walks along deserted beaches. Hill walkers will discover in the area a vast network of bog roads.
