-Kitchen/dining room w. stable door to patio/garden. Well equipped kitchen w. 4 gas hobs, extractor hood, electric oven & grill, microwave, washer/dryer machine, dishwasher & water softener. Large dining table, 2 storage rooms - one w. fridge/freezer, & space for drying/storage of walking equipment. Large supply of china, glasses, pans & utensils, chopping boards, kettle, toaster, electric hand blender, vacuum cleaner, cleaning materials, iron & board. Radiator.
First floor:
-Double bedroom. Attractive furnishings, good quality double bed, wardrobe & plenty of storage cupboards, radiator, & small library.
-Bathroom: fully replaced in 2002, bath w. shower, WC, wash hand basin, shaver point, towel rails, radiator, tiles throughout. |

The surrounding area
Chilham is on the North Downs National Trail and ancient Pilgrim's Way to Canterbury in a designated "Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty”. The Cottage is situated within walking distance to the beautiful, peaceful countryside: the Kent Downs, woodland, lakes and orchards. Excellent walks from the cottage to Kings Wood (1,500 acres) where King Henry VIII hunted deer and to Godmersham Park (visited by Jane Austin). Numerous other walks nearby in the Stour Valley and Crundale Downs.
In the village there are two pubs, a train station (short walk distance — direct trains to London, Canterbury and Ramsgate), bus stop (services to Canterbury and Ashford), Post Office. Groceries, fruit and vegetables obtainable from nearby farm shops. Plenty of parking spaces in the nearby free car park (3 min. walk). The Cathedral city of Canterbury is 6mls. Easy access to many of Kent's attractions, its gardens, castles, coast, nature reserves and historic old towns e.g. Sissinghurst Gardens, Leeds and Dover Castles, Chatham historical dockyard, Whitstable, Faversham, Sandwich, Romney Marsh, Walmer, Rye.

A fishing lake is only a few minutes away from the cottage, plenty of walking trails and horse riding nearby. Golf courses a 10min. drive from the village.

Travel information
Coming from London take Exit Junction 8 (signposted A20, Leeds Castle Lenham), continue on A20: after approx 9 miles at roundabout Junction with A252 take first exit signposted A252 Canterbury. Ascend Charing Hill, at top bear right: after approx 4ms at roundabout (edge of Challock) take 2nd exit and proceed approx. 4.7mls. (past Molash George Inn) to edge of Chilham: turn right taking great care, into village square. “The Smithy” is on the left hand side to Chilham Gift shop. |
