The surrounding area
Home the most important carnaval circuit and one of the best urban beaches in Salvador - Porto da Barra beach.
Barra is a central location with good night life, restaurants, shops, banks, ADSL & wireless internet cafes, etc.
In Barra you can also find the best capoeira and Portuguese language schools in Salvador.
It is a residential neighborhood and not nearly as touristy as Pelourinho - therefore avoiding most of the troublesome touts. However, it is only a short bus ride to most tourist destinations.
