The surrounding area
The Val di Cornia district, thanks to its fertile plains, gentle hills and nearby sea is often called "the Garden of Tuscany".
The Val di Cornia district covers an area that stretches from the Tyrrhenian Sea, to the Gerfalco hills, the town of San Vincenzo and the hills that separate the Livorno and Grosseto plains.
The cultivation of vines in this district began way back in Etruscan times when it is believed that the entire valley was covered in long lines of vines. In fact, the Etruscan influence in the region is so strong that it is known as the "Costa degli Etruschi" and the same name has been given to the local wine route - "la Strada del Vino" that passes by or close to many Etruscan remains.
